Restaurants and bars used to be judged upon the quality of the food and drinks they offer. Nowadays ambiance and great environment count almost as much as food, beverage and service.
With previous experience in interior design for hospitality in Europe, I am really interested in the designs that artists create in bars and restaurants. Playing with shapes, textures, colors and lighting to create different atmospheres at different times of the day is something really challenging but exciting.
And when interior designers get it right, it is extremely rewarding! I’ve identified a series of bars and and restaurants worldwide that have an exceptional setting and I comment each of them, highlighting what makes them unique.
Doing my digital world tour, in search for inspiration and trying to be up to date with the latest creations in interior design, my attention was caught by the Topolopompo. Based in Isreal, this restaurant won the restaurant and bar design award, category “Middle East and Africa Restaurant”.
The concept of this restaurant is very unique and strong: fire is the main element within. Symbol of strength, as the fire of the dragon, fire is omnipresent in this venue: it is physically present, burning in the kitchen to help create excellent dishes and unforgettable tastes, and metaphorically present in many corners of the establishment.
Baranowitz Kronenberg Architecture are the designers of this space: the venue showcases a mythical fire dragon, that hovers all around the space, veiling with its translucent golden tails the various seatings corners.
The light experience within is inspired by the soft glow of asian paper lanterns and by the twinkling of the fireflies.
A very poetical and sensitive approach that conveys a unique atmosphere…
